Using the Shepard's Alert® tab |
The Shepard's Alert® tab provides you with two forms:
- Create a New Shepard's Alert
- Existing Shepard's Alert Searches

Create a New Shepard's Alert
This form lets you set up a new Shepard's Alert by entering a citation. If you need assistance with how to format the citation, click the Citation Formats link.
- Enter a Citation
- Enter the citation for a case. For example, type:

- Set Up
- Click this button to create your new Shepard's Alert.

Existing Shepard's Alert Searches
This form lets you manage your existing Shepard's Alert searches.
- Sort Results By
- You can sort your results using the buttons provided. Clicking the button a second time performs a reverse sort.
- Shepard's Alert Name
- The name of each Shepard's Alert.
- Citation
- The Citation associated with each Shepard's Alert.
- Client ID
- The Client ID associated with each Shepard's Alert, if any.
Note: This column will not appear if you have unchecked "Show Client ID" on the Preferences page.
- Last Update

- Date link
- Click this link to view recent changes for this citation. The link identifies the date of the most recent update — whether scheduled or on-demand. A date in bold font indicates that the most recent update contains changes.
- Alert History
- Click this link to view details of all changes since this Shepard's Alert was created.
- No Updates Available
- This indicates that the Shepard's Alert has been set up, but that no scheduled updates have been run.
- Next Update

- Date link
- This is the date of the next scheduled update.
- Update Now
- Click this link to view changes to this Shepard's Alert since the date of the last update.
- **Expired** Renew Before Date
- This Shepard's Alert has expired. Alerts continue to display for 30 days past their end date. You may:
- Click Renew in the Actions column before the date indicated if you want to renew the Shepard's Alert.
- Click Delete in the Actions column to delete this Shepard's Alert.
- Allow the Shepard's Alert to be removed from the list automatically.
- Paused - Call Customer Support
- This indicates that the Shepard's Alert has been paused by the system. Call Customer Support for assistance.
- Paused - Edit Your Custom Settings
- This indicates that the Shepard’s® report being monitored exceeds 5,000 citing references. Edit your custom settings to restrict the scope of the Shepard’s report being monitored.
- If a red asterisk appears next to the Next Update date, the Shepard's Alert will end within 14 days.

- Click this link to go to the "Edit an Existing Shepard's Alert" page. Click here for more information.
- Delete
- Click this link to delete the Shepard's Alert.
- Pause
- Click this link if you want to pause the Shepard's Alert, then enter the date you would like the Shepard's Alert to resume and click Submit. Or click Cancel to return to the Existing Shepard's Alert Searches page. The date you enter must precede the expiration date.
- Renew
- Click this link to renew an expired Shepard's Alert. Enter the new End Date, then click Submit. Or click Cancel to return to the Existing Shepard's Alert Searches page.
- Resume
- Click this link to resume a paused Shepard's Alert now.
