Semantic Search - Analyze Search Input |
The Semantic Search - Analyze Search Input form lets you change the weight of a concept (by clicking an item to reveal the weighting scale), add new concepts, or remove concepts before you run your search.
- Add
- Click this button to add the concept you entered in the adjacent box.
- Show Check Boxes
- Click this button to show check boxes that indicate whether a concept is included in the search (checked) or ignored (not checked). These check boxes allow you to quickly ignore multiple concepts. See Semantic Search - Weighting Scale for more information about concept weighting.
- Hide Check Boxes
- Click this button to hide check boxes that indicate whether a concept is included in the search (checked) or ignored (not checked).
- Update Display
- Click this button to refresh the display.
- Search Terms
- The concepts that will be used in the search are listed with the weighting shown in brackets.
- Search Now (not available when running a FOCUS™ search)
- Click this button to initiate your search.
- Restrictions (not available when running a FOCUS search)
- This area shows the restrictions you chose for your search.
- Edit (not available when running a FOCUS search)
- Click this link to edit your restrictions.
- Back (when running a FOCUS search)
- Click this button to go back to the Use Semantic Concepts form.
- Go (when running a FOCUS search)
- Click this button to run your search using the concepts and weightings you've selected.
Modifying Semantic Concepts
- Review the concepts to determine whether they are weighted as you'd like.
Tip: You can use the visual display in the "cloud" or you can look at the Search Terms area below the cloud, where numeric weightings are shown.

- Click a concept within the cloud to open the weighting scale.
- Use the scale to choose a new weighting for this concept, or click Delete Concept to remove the concept from the list.
- If desired, click the Show Check Boxes button to select multiple items to be ignored.
- Click Apply to save your changes and return to the Analyze Search Input page.
- If desired, click the Update Display button to see the changes you made within the cloud.
- Once you are satisfied with your concept weightings, click Search Now to run your search.
Editing Semantic Search Restrictions
- Click the Edit link next to Restrictions.
Options are displayed for you to further restrict your results. If you want to hide the restrictions, click Hide Edit.
- Click Search Now when your restrictions and concept weightings have all been set.
