Browse by Page Number Tutorial - Textual Version.

This tutorial describes how to navigate using page numbers. It begins with Castle Rock Entertainment v Carol Publishing Group (150 F.3d 132) displayed in KWIC ™ view and scrolled to the Opinion.

In case law documents, the research system displays page number references to LexisNexis ® pages and to printed pages from hard copy reporters. Page references (such as *142 or **31 ) make it easy to cite to a specific page within a reporter. The asterisks in each reference identify the corresponding reporter.

A legend for the asterisks appears at the top of each document. For example, the legend at the top of our document: "150 F.3d 132, *; 1998 U.S. App. LEXIS 16242, **;" tells you page numbers with one asterisk correspond to the F.3d. reporter, and those with two asterisks represent LexisNexis pagination.

In KWIC view, you can click a page number to move to the beginning of that page in FULL view.

In FULL view, you can use other features to browse by reporter and page number. (Availability of these features depends on your browser configuration.)

With the Lower Navigation Frame, you can highlight page numbers from a specific reporter. Just select a reporter from the "Page" menu and page numbers for the selected reporter are highlighted in the document. You can also enter a Page number and select the (Page) "Go" icon to jump directly to that page.

If you let your cursor sit on a page, the new Pagination Assistant reminds you which page you're viewing. This is helpful when you scroll past the page number indicators in the text. The page information also appears in your browser's status bar.

When you find a particularly relevant page, you can mark it so you can easily return to it later. To mark a page, just select its page number (for example, **19). Then you can select the (Page) "Go" icon in the Lower Navigation Frame to return to that page.

That concludes the Browse by Page Number tutorial. Now you can:
