This tutorial describes how to navigate using the Explore menu, which is available if you have the Lower Navigation Frame enabled. It begins with Castle Rock Entertainment v Carol Publishing Group (150 F.3d 132) displayed in Full view.
Suppose you are reviewing the text of a case such as this one. You can use the Explore menu to jump directly to any major section within a document. To display the menu, click the "Explore" button.
From the Explore menu, notice that you can jump to the prior history, disposition, case summary, and other parts of the document, and return to the top of the document. When necessary, the research system provides scroll buttons you can use to navigate through large menus.
For an example, jump ahead to the Procedural Posture by selecting the "procedural posture" link. The research system scrolls the document and displays the Procedural Posture at the top of the screen.
For documents that have enhanced tables of contents (such as treatises) you can use the Explore menu to navigate to document subsections. The Explore menu displays document subsections in a pull-right menu, which you can use to jump directly to a particular subsection.
The Explore menu and other navigation options make it easy to move around within a document. To help you keep track of your location, the research system offers the TOC floating Cite Assistant, available for many documents with enhanced tables of contents.
When the Cite Assistant is on, you can pause the cursor over any portion of the document to display the pinpoint cite of your position. You can toggle the Cite Assistant on and off from anywhere in the research system using the Preferences screen. To do that, select the "Preferences" link.
The Cite Assistant setting is about halfway down the Preferences page. To toggle the assistant on or off, you would use the "Show floating cite assistant" check box, and then select the "Set" button at the bottom of the screen.
Note that the Explore menu is available only if your browser configuration supports the Lower Navigation Frame and the menu is active only when you display your document in Full view.
That concludes the Browse with the Explore Menu tutorial. Now you can:
